Our Story

Shri R. Rangaswamy was inspired by the disciplined method of knowledge inculcated in him at the Sri Ramakrishna Mission in Mysore and he strongly believed in the words of Swami Vivekanada – “We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.”

Founder: Sri R Rangaswamy

Not having children of his own, he believed that serving the society by providing holistic education at an affordable cost was a way of serving God. Hence, he founded the school in 1983 with a handful students and a couple of teachers. He named the school after his beloved wife Mona. The school building had a few rooms without even a proper roof.

Sri R. Rangaswamy was a kind-hearted man with deep concern for the poor and downtrodden. When he started the school, he decided that the school should always cater to the economically backward section of the community. Thus, even today, we have maintained the fee structure so as to serve the neediest.

After his sudden and untimely demise, the daily running of the school was taken over by his widow Smt. Mona Rangaswamy. She quit her lucrative job at HMT Watch Factory to take on all the responsibilities of the school. Little did we know back then that in 40 years, we would be an institution from which about 4000 students have passed through.

She took on the challenge of expanding the school until class X and the first batch of SSLC students passed out in the academic year 1992-1993. In fact, this year we celebrated sending out the 30th batch of SSLC students into the world as responsible citizens. Smt. Mona Rangaswamy spearheaded the construction of the new school buildings and overcame immense financial and logistical challenges in order to shepherd the school into the new millennium

Throughout the last four decades, the management and staff have ensured that every student who passes out of the school is an asset to the society and the country. With a strong emphasis on character building, discipline, and integrity, BMHS is today synonymous with value-based education in the neighbourhood.

Today, the school stands tall on the shoulders of its many illustrious alumni, dedicated staff, well-wishers and of course the blessings of the Almighty. The future of this institution lies with the younger members of the management such as our newly-appointed Dean Dr. Rijutha Jaganathan. Their vision, innovation and strong values will take the school to newer pinnacles.
